Short project Summary

Aluminium extrusion companies usually ‘make to order’ mass-customized profiles for different applications. Since an average midcap company may own more than 10.000 die designs, it is both difficult and time-consuming to manually search for the customer’s request among the existing codes.

The proposed CAD Explorer is an AI-based Visual Similarity tool that uses a simplified die sketch as input and is able to find the closest design matches of the customer’s database, based on its cutting-edge image similarity, deep-learning based algorithm. The use of such tool enables the Sales Managers to quickly search and retrieve the most relevant Die Codes. Moreover, the retrieved results can be also available to the standard third-party systems, enabling concurrent access to all data required to provide an accurate quotation without undue delays. CAD Explorer will be made available through Market 4.0 marketplace in order to maximize its visibility and ease of purchase.

2. EDI – Multiply

Project Title Standardized connection of multiple ERP providers and industrial companies to the SCSN Eco System

Short project Summary

The project EDI-Multiply will mainly achieve two things, which help to disseminate and increase MARKET4.0. Firstly, with the connection of myOpenFactory to MARKET4.0, more than 1350 participants will automatically join the platform. Secondly, various template interfaces are created from the CIBA to enable a faster onboarding process for new ERP systems, which will be released as Open Source. To test these to things s in practice, the company BT Brammer B.V. / Rubix will be connected with a long-existing business partner by bridging between MARKET4.0 and myOpenFactory participants. The necessary processes, including business model development, are supported by the FIR e.V. at RWTH Aachen.

Partner 1: myOpenfachtory Software GmbH

Using some of the results of the German research project „myOpenFactory“ the „myOpenFactory Software GmbH“ started in December 2005 as a spin-off of the RWTH Aachen University. myOpenFactory delivers the service of a unified EDI platform for the exchange of business documents. Any member on the myOpenFactory-platform needs only one interface to connect many other companies to its ERP system. Users of myOpenFactory’s services are all the „big“ names in the engineering and automotive business, but the greater share of the more than 1.350 users consists of small and medium-sized companies from several European countries.

The FIR e. V. at the RWTH Aachen is an affiliated institute, which is affiliated to the RWTH Aachen. The FIR conducts application-oriented research under the term of Industrial Management in the areas of company organization and company development. The focus of the production management department is on the optimization of business processes and especially on industrial order processing. The focus is on the digitization of those mentioned processes by modeling processes and designing process automation and optimization.

The Center Integrated Business Applications (CIBA) is part of the Enterprise Integration Center Aachen GmbH (EICe) located at the Cluster Smart Logistic at RWTH Campus Aachen and concentrates together with industry members on integrated business applications. At the interface between research and industry, the CIBA provides decisive impulses in the design, further development, and implementation of integrated business applications that support and optimize future production processes. The services and solutions are aimed at software providers, system houses, and users (e.g. SMEs or selected enterprise customers). The Center offers the services at various levels, taking the necessary perspective in each case to create individual benefits.

Gizelis S.A. is specializing in the manufacturing of machines for the sheet metal industry, with activities that start from machine design and development, and continue with complete ‘in house’ manufacturing of sheet metal processing machines. Gizelis has a large network of global associates, and y is able to provide complete solutions for sheet metal processing machines. As part of its strategy for reaching new clients and improving product and service procurement, Gizelis is looking to join the Market4.0 ecosystem so as to increase its global network and gain access to the Market4.0 platform functionalities.

The proposed use case focuses on leveraging the Market4.0 ecosystem by:

  • Listing Gizelis’ products in the Market4.0 web portal.
  • Deploy and test Market4.0 applications.
  • Realize a procurement scenario utilizing the Market4.0 ecosystem with KLEEMANN (acting as customer) to identify and quantify the benefits gained from utilizing Market4.0 technologies.

4. eSPINDLE

Project Title Digitalisation and internationalisation of the sale process of electronic spindles and repair services

eSPINDLE aims to digitalise and internationalise the sale process of high-speed electro spindles and repair services.

From a strategic point of view, key objectives to be achieved in the framework of the eSPINDLE subproject are: (1) to boost visibility and internationalisation of the offer of a production equipment supplier in the metal sector (i.e., providing electro spindles and repair services) through the introduction of its catalogue of products and services in the MARKET4.0 ecommerce platform targeting a pan-European market; (2) to support digitalisation process by including new digital services supporting the bidding phase of customised products and previous assessment of the repair services; (3) experiment and evaluate the new ways of work.

From an operation point of view main objectives involved increased turnover and market distribution as well as increased efficiency in the bidding process (i.e., reduction of time & related costs).

Partner 1: GOIALDE HIGH SPEED

GHS (https://www.goialdehs.com/en/) was founded in 2002 and it’s part of the GOIALDE GROUP. GHS is leader in the design and manufacture of high-speed electro spindles. 30% of GHS’s product sales comes from catalogue products while the remaining 70% comes from customised products adjusted to the specific needs of their customers. Furthermore, GHS provides repair service packs involving multi brand spindle heads and models that cover the three phases in the repair process as well as a push service for emergency situations. Currently GHS has a website that displays its product catalogue; however, this website does not facilitate the process of procurement of its products and services. From a market point of view 98% of their market share is national, however, GHS intends to grow by diversifying their geographic markets.

5. EVOLUTIO

EVOLUTIO is an experiment that aims to help industrial companies to penetrate the competitive markets for the production of metal components for thermoplastic injection services and for the production of plastic parts through the implementation of these industrial services by using tools able to fast analyze costing and production times to provide an efficient response to customer demands. To do this, the functionalities provided by the existing manufacturing data tools i.e., Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and by the Production Management tools i.e., Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) will be integrated with MARKET 4.0 service platform through specific IoT Gateway capable of integrating company production process information and the tools of the MARKET 4.0 in a secure way by using IDS connectors.

GLN MOLDS is a Mid Cap located in Portugal with more than 30 years’ experience on the Molds manufacturing for different sectors, such as automotive, electric and electronic and food packing. GLN PLAST is a Mid Cap from Portugal, with more than 20 years’ experience and specialized in the mass production of plastic injection parts in an environment certified through ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949. It has nearly 30 plastic injection machines and is capable of testing molds in machines with a clamping force between 40 to 420 tons and can guarantee the production of pre-series for the approval of new products as well as the production of large, medium and small series.

With 102 employees and 22 temporary workers, the company is a member of a larger industrial group – GLN Group, which incorporates other companies, all tied to the molding and plastic industry. Several decades of experience and constant technological innovation establish it as a dynamic group of excellence that integrates the phases of Product Development and Engineering, the Development and Manufacture of high precision molds, injection process modelling and the injection of plastic parts, supported by complementary high added value services. Imagine an engineer at a technological fair and who is trying to decide which of the suppliers to choose.

The price difference is evident; however for anyone who has been in that position it is obvious that the price is just a small part of the overall picture.

For example are the suppliers allowed to import to the desired destination and if they are, are there additional taxes, duties and fees?

If the product uses the parts by this supplier is it going to satisfy the ‘rules of origin’ requirements of the largest customers?

Where and how much are the taxes and duties paid when the final product is sold?                   

Faces with all those mainly administrative and tax questions very often the engineer would not know where to even begin.

We are creating an app that is going to assist the hi-tech manufacturers in resolving those issues. The Free to Trade app also has the ambition to provide information to SMEs concerning not only goods, but also services and goods with services blends. That is of crucial importance for high-tech SMEs, where their product is often a hybrid and requires substantial customization and/or support for a specific key customer(s).

7. GREAT

Project Title High Precision Bending and Cutting machines for Metal Industry 4.0

The GREAT proposal ambition is to introduce RICO, a high-tech machine construction company for the metal industry, in a specialized digital marketplace. This company produces customized press brakes and guillotine shears according to the customers’ needs. Moreover, due to its software development capabilities, different data driven services are provided in order to support end users to improve product design and productivity.

Therefore, this proposal aims to support RICO not only sharing their solutions (machines and software) information within the Market4.0 platform for e-commerce purposes, but also to facilitate order customization process through the marketplace, using a full compliant Market4.0 app for machines configuration, supporting the interaction between the supplier and the customer. Moreover, a specific domain App will be developed to be traded through the market4.0 marketplace.

This consortium is led by a niche manufacturing company of high precision Press Brakes and Guillotine Shears machines (RICO), with internal software capabilities and resources, two metal products manufacturing companies, which will test and use the platform as a final user and a Research Institute for R&D (INESC TEC).

All the investigation, development and manufacturing of sheet metal working solutions is made internally at our premises, in co-operation with universities and a network of reliable suppliers

RICO develops and produces high performance press brakes and guillotine shears for global markets, while develops specific domain software for efficient use of their products (e.g. Offline product development, simulation and optimization). RICO also offers training and qualified technical services related to their products.

RICO is now a worldwide reference, especially in the most demanding market segments. Rico machines are now running in several reference companies and we foster for proximity and strong partnerships with every Rico customer and machine user.

RICO is the leader of the consortium for this Open Call proposal. As leader of the proposal, RICO will be responsible for the project management and monitoring (T1.2). From a technical perspective, RICO will lead the development of the machine customization app (T3.1) as well as the machines monitoring (T3.3) and predictive maintenance apps (T.3.2). Finally, RICO is responsible for the task related with exploitation and new business models (T4.2).

CUBOTONIC produces for subcontracting and are ideal partners for outsourcing for different-sized companies from different areas, such as: the automotive industry, the banking sector; furniture, road construction and telecommunications and networks, amongst many others.

CUBOTONIC uses the latest later cutting technology and is proud to ensure a high level of detail and quality in its services. Equipped with Trumpf Truflow 3030 3200w, offering an infinite number of part geometries in the different materials. The cutting geometry can be defined by the customers or obtained by CUBOTONIC, either with files design software. CUBOTONIC produces components of various materials in small or large series.

The bending of parts at Cubotónic is carried out by experienced operators. The company has a wide range of customized solutions and machines with 5 axle CNC, which allows an increase in profitability and bending. We bend sheets from any type of metal with a 4-metre and 200-ton limit, enabling generous thicknesses to be attained.

CUBOTONIC also uses the latest technology in sheet metal cutting with CNC punching. Equipped with FinnPower and Raskin, CUBOTONIC offers highly versatile CNC drilling and stamping and high standards of rigour. CUBOTONIC offers a wide range of punches in various formats. CUBOTONIC will take the role of final user from metal sector that will experiment the Market4.0 platform to buy RICO’s machines and services. CUBOTONIC will participate in the use cases definition, piloting and feedback gathering processes.

Excal way is the sustainable evolution through the technological application and continuous improvement.

EXKAL CONCEPT is specialized in the design, development and manufacture of special cases for the retail food sector, including refrigerated, neutral and hot cabinets.

EXKAL CONCEPT range comprises showcases, low multidecks, multidecks, fish decks, neutral work tables, refrigerated tables, sinks and special cabinets to display food products according to the customer specifications and needs, meeting with the optimal performance, ergonomics and use standards.

EXKAL will take the role of final user from metal sector that will experiment the Market4.0 platform to buy RICO’s machines and services. EXKAL will participate in the use cases definition, piloting and feedback gathering processes.

INESC TEC is an Associate Laboratory, a private non-profit research institution, dedicated to scientific research and technological development, technology transfer, advanced consulting and training, and pre-incubation of new technology-based companies. As an institution operating at the interface of the academic and business worlds, bringing closer together academia, companies, public administration, and society, INESC TEC typically applies the knowledge and results generated as part of its research in technology transfer projects, seeking value creation and immediate social relevance. Present in six sites in the cities of Porto, Braga and Vila Real, INESC TEC incorporates 13 R&D Centres, structured in four thematic domains – Computer Science, Industry and Innovation, Networked Intelligent Systems, and Power and Energy. INESC TEC hosts over 700 integrated researchers (about 350 PhDs), including staff researchers, researchers from Higher Education Institutions, grant holders and affiliated researchers. INESC TEC’s team also includes trainees, and technical and administrative support staff. INESC TEC will serve as scientific and research entity, being leader of work package 2 – Market 4.0 foundations and interoperability and 4 – Use Cases, Dissemination and Exploitation and assuring the execution of tasks 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 4.1 and 4.3. INESCTEC will also participate in other tasks, supporting the SMEs in Scientific and technological related themes.

Short project Summary

M-AID application experiment will apply artificial intelligence driven cyber-physical embedded systems (CPES) that will provide support to manufacturing SMEs in order to improve their activity from a process, maintenance and production point of view. The application experiment will apply and validate the developments over an aeronautic compressor case. The developed solution will offer currently not accessible information to optimize the cutting process by modifying the process parameters in cases where they can be improved, scheduling the maintenance to maximize the availability of the machine and organizing plant production. For that purpose, M-AID will integrate the latest ICT technologies for harvesting the huge quantity of data offered by machines and embedded systems, in which a hybrid artificial intelligence will be used, by combining predictive and prescriptive analysis solutions. In this way, the developed tool will provide support in the decision making of process optimization, predictive maintenance and production planning. The processed information will be combined with advanced dashboards, including wearables, wherein the surveillance and inputs from plant actors will be collected.

AEROMEC’s main objective is the machining of parts with the maximum level of quality and zero defects, achieving the most exigent delivery times. AEROMEC is actually in a big growing process, with the main goal of becoming, with more machinery capabilities, a main reference in machining aerospace components. AEROMEC is producing parts for some of the main European aerospace companies including ITP, Volvo Aero, Figeac Aero, Mechachrome, Latecoere and Cesa. 9. LMM4M

Project Title Lithography-Based Metal Manufacturing for MARKET4.0

Short project Summary

The Lithography-based Metal Manufacturing (LMM) technology introduced by this project’s leader Incus GmbH can be utilized for small- and medium-scale production of small and complex parts. The technology allows the highest surface aesthetics compared to other AM technologies for metals. Consequently, the project LMM4M will connect the Austrian SME Incus GmbH as a production equipment provider and German SME MetShape GmbH as contract manufacturing company to the MARKET4.0 platform. Despite its clear advantages, extensive knowledge and understanding of AM constraints and restrictions are required for wider industrial adoption of LMM technology due to its novelty. Different process-specific challenges, such as minimum printable feature size, necessary support material, as well as the thermal post-process that involves debinding and sintering accompanied by shrinkage of the printed component, could lead to poor quality parts. The aim of the project LMM4M is to develop software for automated 3D design analysis in the metal AM domain with the focus on LMM technology. The intended solution will be able to automatically interpret relevant data about material type and form, tolerances, as well as part post-processing and shall guide the user in design decisions by giving relevant feedback.

Partner 1: Incus GmbH

Incus GmbH is an Austrian engineering company, founded in September 2019 as a spin-off company of Lithoz, and is offering the metal manufacturing industry a new 3D printing approach based on lithography. The company’s mission is to enable new and innovative possibilities for 3D printing of metal materials. The company’s vision is to revolutionize the manufacturing industry and become preferred partner in metal AM for metal products manufacturers. Incus aims at introducing a paradigm shift in the manufacturing technology that will facilitate the widespread adoption of Additive Manufacturing, create new market opportunities for next-generation metal parts, and increase the global market share of the European metal manufacturers.

Incus was incorporated to bring forward the development and commercialization of the first scalable high-quality metal manufacturing using 3D printing. The proposed innovative additive manufacturing (AM) process is based on an advanced optical lithography combined with a new feedstock composition. Incus headquarters are located at Technologiezentrum Seestadt, Vienna, including an office space and a workspace. The company currently has 6 full-time employees.

The MetShape company is specialized in metallic 3D printing. The company is a technology co-developer and so far the only service provider with the new innovative Lithography-Based Metal Manufacturing – Technology (LMM). The start-up was founded in early 2019 and offers its customers not only component studies and series production, but also consulting services ranging from 3D printing-compliant component optimization to comprehensive advice on implementing their own 3D printing processes. The MetShape team’s wide range of expertise in materials and process development is used to continuously develop the technologies used and to expand the range of materials through appropriate qualification processes.

10. MetalX

Project Acronym Product passport for the Metal Industry with Predictive Maintenance

Short project Summary

The MetalX will interconnect industrial manufacturer with the provider of the engineer services using the Market 4.0 platform as a mediator. The proposed activities are part of the ongoing digitalization taking place in Metalac factory, with a goal to provide digital identity to all machines and processes in form of a digital twin. This project will follow this approach by expanding Market 4.0 functionalities with product passport component for machinery; and integrating interfaces and data flows from production equipment by adapting existing predictive maintenance service. The prototype of the service is developed for Metalac to monitor their machinery for manufacturing of enameled, stainless steel and non-stick cookware (using vibration sensors and data collected from processes). The goal is to adapt interfaces, execute integration with platform IDS connectors so as to provide efficient product passport components for the industry, working with the Market 4.0 workflows and apps.

DunavNET was established in 2006, as a software consultancy company, with a R&D office in Novi Sad, Serbia, and the sales and business development office in Dublin, Ireland. Over the years, DunavNET evolved into a product development company, designing and licensing own solutions based on IoT and AI technologies. Today, the company employs over 30 people, mainly telecommunications, computer science, software and data science engineers.

The expertise of the company lies in the domain of designing and provisioning turnkey IoT/AI solutions comprising all required components and functionalities, from devices equipped with appropriate sensors, actuators, gateways, to integration with cloud services, domain specific data analytics algorithms and client dashboards. Examples of such commercial solutions are ekoNET, a mobile environment monitoring solution, glueNET, an industrial IoT solution for the beer bottling industry and agroNET/poultryNET suite of solutions addressing the agri-food supply chain. All solutions are designed with the UN SDGs in mind, contributing primarily to the UN SDG2, and SDG15.

DNET is active in the collaborative research projects. The company participated in and led a number of FP7 and H2020 projects, focusing on development of novel technologies and their validation, leading to commercial exploitation. The focus of the innovation activities is on the agri-food sector, and, since H2020 TagItSmart project on the circular economy as well. The Product passport solution, one of the main outputs of the TagItSmart project, is used as one of the key building blocks of a circular economy ecosystem, enabling unique identification of products and their tracking throughout the product lifecycle.

(1) Servitisation. ATTEN2 need to start the path towards the transformation of their business model from a product selling approach to a service selling one by creating a services infrastructure for remote equipment health condition diagnostic and for supporting customers to maximize their equipment availability.

(2) Market expansion. ATTEN2’s vision is to be a company of recognized international prestige where they offer a product/service of excellent quality. In this sense, MARKET4.0 marketplace is an opportunity to open to new markets.

Project Title Boosting the MARKET4.0 Platform for Product-Service Systems: pilot in Plasma Cutting Manufacturing

The quality of an equipment/machine cannot be demonstrated by showing only the configuration-related data, like the type of material that can be processed and the average energy consumption. Ever more required is the operational dynamic data, like the pressure and energy fluctuation during the production of one particular item (with a particular configuration). This data can explain the hidden nature of the machine and usually shouldn’t be shared with everyone. The goal of this project is to enable sharing and validating this information with potential buyers, using MARKET4.0 Platform

Beside the goal of boosting the usage of MARKET4.0 Platform, this project will validate its suitability for the Product/Service‐Systems (PSS), service‐oriented approach that combines product and services into a total integrated solution. We define three types of data related to PSS, which can be promoted in the marketplace: a) static data (related to characteristics of the machine, like min/max thickness, from the data sheet), b) dynamic data (related to the operation/usage of the machine, like the energy consumption in a period of time in a particular setting, e.g. material type) and c) service description (related to the services which that PSS offers). The project will be tested is the case for HPm, an innovation oriented plasma cutting machine SME vendor, which has understood the service-oriented nature of modern products and has the strategy of offering to customers various added-value services for the traditional cutting process.

The application domains range from wearables-based eHealth (remote patient monitoring), through IoT-driven intelligent transportation till Cyber-Physical Production systems (flexible manufacturing), with the main focus on creating dynamically responsive systems that can sense and respond timely (or even ahead of time). As we all know the manufacturing industry in Europe deals with several challenges. We must be very flexible to meet customer demands. The problem for companies at this point in the supply chain is that the exchange of information is interrupted by smaller companies which are not connected to an ERP System. Even for an ERP software to be used efficiently, it is dependent on input such as delivery dates and times in order to be able to carry out production planning correctly. The present project is intended to counteract this loss of information and create the possibility of providing smaller suppliers without an ERP system with the necessary information. This solution will after the POC of this project provide a relationship based on all the relevant standards like IDSA and SCSN to make exchange secure, but also not the reinvent the wheel when it comes to data sovereignty. The portal will be developed to be independent of the ERP systems. It is not linked to national borders.
